Biological Reactors for BOD Reduction
The EcoMat Biological Systems use new technology involving carriers called Ecolink.

WWSI's Biological Reactors for BOD Reduction

These carriers provide a large surface area for naturally occurring bacteria to live and grow. Because of the unique structure of the Ecolink carrier EcoMat's Biological System has a surface area-to-volume ratio up to 100 times greater than conventional biological processes. The incredible amount of carrier surface area in Ecolink permits an extremely high loading rate and results in Biological Systems that are 50-90% smaller than conventional biological systems.

This translates into significant system and operational cost reduction.

Features and benefits of the treatment system:

  • Application:
Textile, Food Processing, Soda and Juice Bottling, Dairy products Processing, Metal Working and Chemical Processing Facilities discharging wastewater containing Free Oil and Grease (FOG), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and suspended solids (TSS). POTW charges the manufacturers a surcharge for any effluent discharged with BOD, FOG in excess of 250 PPM and 100 PPM. Consequently these Manufacturers can significantly reduce or eliminate discharge surcharge expenses when using the technology that can reduce BOD, FOG and TSS loading.
  • Treatment Objective:
Reduction of BOD, FOG and TSS to reduce or eliminate POTW surcharges, and to reuse some or most of the treated wastewater. This treatment process does not utilize chemicals, and produces product water that:
    • consistently meets discharge limits with regards to BOD, TSS, and FOG.
    • is in the 0.5- 1 micron range
    • reduces solid waste by 80%
    • allows most of the treated water to be reused in the process areas and as make up for HVAC systems.

  • Treatment Cost:
    This treatment process:
    • eliminates the use and storage of chemicals
    • eliminates the need of a wastewater treatment operator
    • requires over ten times less space than conventional treatment technologies
    • allows the product water to be discharged or reused
    • requires electrical energy to operate one recirculating pump
